HIGH COMMISSION OF INDIA, MALE’

ADVISORY FOR MALDIVIAN NATIONALS APPLYING FOR MEDICAL VISA

The High Commission of India, Male’, wishes to inform that of late, several foreign nationals have approached us with problems being faced while applying for medical visas. In this context, as per the bilateral agreement, Maldivian nationals are exempted from the requirement of an Indian visa for the purpose of Tourism/Medical/Business if their period of stay in India is not exceeding 90 days in preceding six months.

However, the following are the extant regulations for Maldivian nationals seeking medical visa for information and needful action.

  • Foreign national(s) seeking medical visa must procure documents from the hospital in Indiawhere (s)he seeks to undergo treatment, recommending issuance of medical visa. This invitation letter/ appointment letter etc. must be shared with the concerned Indian Mission/ Post (in this case, the High Commission of India, Male') on its official email [email protected]  for processing of Medical Visa cases.
  • The medical invitation letter from the hospital authorities in India must have a unique reference number so that verification can be carried out in a transparent manner. The unique reference number is mandatory to be filled while applying for medical visas.
  • For extension of medical visas in respect of foreign nationals already in India, to continue their treatment, the application has to be submitted to the concerned Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Indiaunder which the hospital falls, not to the High Commission of India, Male'. For this, the foreign nationals must procure a letter, from hospital authorities and submit the same to the FRRO/ FRO concerned.
